Tender care for
critical neonates & preemies
Our team aims for ‘Intact Survival’ of babies,
Critical Neonatal Care
A sick baby cannot ‘tell’ us what’s bothering her. This makes treating her a major challenge. At Arpan, our highly experienced team of neonatologists, nurses and technicians provide world-class diagnostics and cure. An Arpan Parent is assured of consultation from virtually all existing paediatric subspecialties, along with compassionate treatment and leading edge neonatal and perinatal care.
Facilities for Critical Neonatal Care:
First Check-Up Clinic
At our First Check-up Clinic, we screen the baby as per our philosophy of ‘Intact Survival’. Various common but not evident diseases, if present, are diagnosed. We also provide first vaccination and lactation support, if desired.
Our ‘No Waiting OPDs’ work on appointment basis only to give each baby enough attention and proper treatment. The baby is screened for:
Congenital Heart Diseases
Eye Diseases (Red Reflex)
Growth, Weight, Length, Head Circumference
Metabolic Disorders (Optional)
Hearing (Optional)
Regular And High-Risk Follow Up
Our holistic approach extends to babies who have been discharged from our NICU. Depending upon their maturity, degree of sickness and their progress in the NICU, we categorize the babies into 3 groups:
Based on this, we plan a follow up schedule for them.
Lactation Support
Breastfeeding reinforces the mother-baby bond by providing the baby adequate nutritional and emotional needs. Our team is specially trained to support and encourage mothers of preemies to express breast milk using breast pumps. Arpan Mothers are encouraged to breastfeed their babies as much as possible to strengthen their bond. We also have comfortable, private feeding areas for mothers in our OPD area with trained nurses to ensure hassle-free feeding experience.
Ante-Natal Counselling
Special counselling is provided to expectant mothers whose foetus is at risk either because of mother’s disease or certain structural and congenital problems. Our team works with them, clearing all their doubts, and planning with them for such high risk deliveries and the subsequent transport and treatment of their baby at our NICU. Wherever possible, we encourage in utero transport of the sick baby.
N.E.T.S.
Arpan has a fully equipped Newborn Emergency Transport System (N.E.T.S.) with a transport incubator, ventilator support and oxygen supply which has already saved the lives of many sick infants during their transfer to our NICU. We have transferred many sick babies while keeping the baby on Nitric Oxide or while requiring cooling therapy. A well trained team ensures that the baby’s temperature is maintained during the transport with continuous monitoring of the baby’s condition. This helps in reducing the mortality rate and the instances of morbidities.
NICUPS
A support group by Arpan Parents, for Arpan Parents
The Neonatal Intensive Care Unit Parents’ Support Group (NICUPS) has been formed by “Arpan Mothers” whose babies have been treated and discharged from our NICU. They get together once a month, sharing health stories and emotional support with the mothers whose babies are currently being treated at Arpan NICU. This gives them hope and a feeling of someone being there for them. This support goes a long way in easing their worries and anxiety, knowing that others have gone through what they’re facing and have achieved positive results. At Arpan, it is our endeavour to create an atmosphere where Arpan Parents are relaxed and full of hopes. This is done through a caring and understanding staff in an environment that is safe, positive, and promising.
If you are an Arpan Parent who wishes to be a part of NICUPS, you are welcome!
NB Screen Programme
The purpose of the programme
While newborn babies might seem normal, some of them might be suffering from various health conditions which will hamper their normal growth and life in the future. Through NB Screen Programme, these anomalies can be identified at an early stage, giving the baby enough time for treatment and healthy growth.
It is recommended by medical councils across the world and is mandatory for all babies born in countries such as UK, USA, Germany, Japan, Australia and many more.
The chances of detecting a condition
The chance of detecting an individual condition is small. However, it must be noted that the results depend on the conditions included in the screening and the comprehensiveness of the programme. In rare cases when a problem is found, early diagnosis and treatment help in preventing the associated problems. If your baby does not seem well, talk to a doctor as soon as possible.
The course of action after an abnormal result
When you receive an abnormal result, you will be notified along with your paediatrician. If you don’t have one, we will put you in touch with our network of doctors. You can decide the course of action after you receive the screening test result.
